The Truth About Music School



Every year, thousands of music students trudge through strenuous applications, auditions, and interviews to get into the music school of their dreams. Despite all the efforts that go into this process, however, a shocking amount of students never really take the time to find out what they can really expect from music school.

Consider this:

Harvard University graduates an impressive 97% of its students. Yale lags just slightly behind, with 96%. MIT seems to be a little bit ashamed about its 89% graduation rate...

So how many students graduate from Berklee College of Music after 4 years of school?

Forty percent. It's an alarming statistic, really. Berklee school of music graduates less than half the percentage of some of the toughest schools in the nation. Obviously there is more to music school than meets the eye...

You have to realize how many hundreds to thousands of students go enter music school every year and become bogged down, depressed, claiming that they hate being a music major. This is rarely ever the fault of the school, and in fact about 95% of the time this situation can be prevented with the proper research by the student.

Despite the statistics, music school doesn't have to be scary, if you go there prepared, and with the right mindset. The first step is to seriously decide if you need to be at a music school. You have a lot of options. Do as much research as possible before you make your decision, and prepare yourself before you get there. These next few articles are a great place to start, but I also recommend you go seek out more information on your own and really find out what you want your life to be like for the next 4 years.
