About This Site- My Mission

So what is the purpose of this site?

As I have said before, there is an incredible abundance of material on the web regarding the “technical side” of making music (e.g. music lessons, theory lessons, etc.). Though these aspects of musicianship are undeniably very important, they mean absolutely nothing in the long run without the right mindset backing them up.

No one can put it better than Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“As to methods, there may be a million and then some, but principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have trouble.”

My goal is to share what I have experienced about these invaluable, indispensable principles of what it means to really be a musician- something many music schools and teachers never even mention.

Who am I?

My name is Nehal Parikh (Ney-hall Puh-reek), and I was born an raised in the town of Katy, TX (outside Houston). I am a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter, (and you can check out some of my songs here) and I currently attend the University of North Texas, where I am studying vocal jazz as well as classical voice. This summer, I will be transferring to Berklee school of music where I will be a dual vocal-guitar performance major, along with songwriting.

My mission

I established this website to create a community for aspiring musicians, meaning there is no “all-knowing guru” and his “followers”. There is me, the writer, and you, the readers, but we are all one and the same. I created this page just as much to learn from the experiences of others as I did to share my own. I am not trying to act like an expert, I just want to share something I think will help someone, or maybe a lot of people somewhere down the line. But more than that, I hope to create a forum where everyone can share the lessons they have learned, and we can all grow from them.
